Charles previously co-founded Skarn Associates in 2016 and successfully built the company into the leading provider of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), energy and water use covering the mining industry. He remains a significant investor in Skarn.
Charles has around 30 years of consulting experience in the mining industry. He started his career as a geologist, before joining Brook Hunt where he worked as a senior mining analyst for nearly 10 years. Following this he worked as an Extel-rated sell-side analyst for several London leading investment banks including Evolution Securities and Oriel Securities.
Charles was previously Research Director at S&P Global Market Intelligence (previously SNL) where he led a team in setting up the successful mine economics division that produced supply side analysis and detailed cost data across 15 commodities. In addition, he undertook numerous bespoke consulting projects. Before this Charles was Managing Director of The Gold Mining Company Ltd, an investment vehicle focused on acquiring operating gold mines in West Africa. He graduated from the University of Wales Cardiff in Geology (B.Sc. Hons) and has an M.Sc. in Mineral Project Appraisal from the University of Imperial College (London). His master's thesis was on the valuation of KGHM copper using European option pricing.
Charles' expertise ranges from mine and royalty valuation, sustainability and commodity supply-demand analysis, technical due diligence, debt and equity financing to corporate strategy.
